PATRIZIA Music Programme, UK

Transforming Lives Through Music Education

The PATRIZIA Foundation is proud to announce the PATRIZIA Music Programme UK, a programme designed to support young people across the UK by bringing transformative classical music education to students from disadvantaged or challenged communities. This project marks the Foundation’s first in the UK and the fifth in Europe. In partnership with MiSST (Music in Secondary School Education), which was established with fundings from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and the Charles Wolfson Trust, the PATRIZIA Music Programme UK promises every child an opportunity to study a classical musical instrument on entry into secondary school, as well as tuition and performance opportunities.

By funding access to classical instruments and dedicated training, the programme is opening doors to confidence, discipline, and new opportunities through music.

“It’s a privilege to be Ambassadors for The UK PATRIZIA Foundation. We are especially pleased the Foundation will be supporting The Music in Secondary Schools Trust which provides quality musical instrument tuition in disadvantaged schools across the UK. The transformative power of music for children is universally recognised and The UK PATRIZIA Foundation will help MiSST reach more children up and down the country.”

Bringing Classical Music to UK Youth, Tackling Social and Economic Barriers

Learning an instrument can be a powerful tool for personal and academic growth, yet many students in the UK lack access to musical education. The PATRIZIA Music Programme UK is bridging this gap by partnering with The Bay Leadership Academy in Morecambe and The Lowry Academy in Manchester to provide an instrument, weekly group lessons, and performance opportunities at school and beyond. The PATRIZIA Foundation supports this endeavour by funding 300 new instruments, with a commitment of ÂŁ90,000 over three years. Through regular, high-quality music education, students develop cognitive, emotional, and social skills that not only enrich their personal growth but also positively shape their future paths and opportunities.

MiSST alumni share how the programme has impacted their lives, both personally and academically. Now studying subjects such as zoology in Glasgow or physics at Oxford, and pursuing careers such as film composition, they reflect on the support, leadership training and musical opportunities MiSST provided – especially for those who might not otherwise have had access. They speak of gaining confidence, valuable life skills and a sense of community that encourages others to believe in their potential, regardless of their background.

Stories of Change

Alannah Story of Change

Alannah Makoni discovered her passion for the saxophone through the music programme by MiSST. From joining her school’s orchestra to finding her place in the Saturday MiSST orchestra, Alannah’s confidence has blossomed, and she now aspires to a professional career in music.

“Saxophone has led me to being a part of advanced orchestra and band at school, and of course the MiSST Saturday orchestra. These are honestly all of the highlights of the week for me. I used to see music as a hobby rather than a career, but being a part of such ensembles made me realise that in future I definitely want to pursue music professionally.”

Tristan Story of Change

Tristan Francis, once uncertain and shy, found self-belief and resilience during his first Radley Residential. He now serves as a student leader, inspiring others and leading music events. MiSST has shaped Tristan’s life, guiding his ambitions as he prepares to study music at university.

“MiSST has played an invaluable role in both my musical and personal development. Before starting secondary school, I lacked previous musical experiences and had limited access to instrumental lessons. MiSST has given me the tools to discover my passion for music. It has also provided me with a consistent routine, helping me to balance multiple extracurricular activities and effectively manage my time.”
