A long-awaited project has become reality: This year, in Bafia, in the heart of Cameroon, a significant milestone was celebrated — the new and reopened PATRIZIA School Bafia.
For many years, the school was in poor condition.
There was neither running water nor electricity, the roofs were leaking, and accessible sanitary facilities were missing—crucial for the many children with physical disabilities in the region. The classrooms opened directly onto a busy road, and there was no secure entrance gate, exposing the children to noise, vandalism, and danger—making everyday learning a real challenge.
Hardly any infrastructure, hardly any protection, hardly any prospects.
However, today, the school shines in new splendor: A large entrance gate welcomes the children every morning. The schoolyard is spacious and inviting, with a covered pavilion that serves as a meeting point for the school community.
The classrooms are now solidly built, brightly painted, and ready for modern teaching. Clean and functional toilets are now part of the facilities as well—a huge step forward for hygiene and dignity in everyday school life.
A particularly emotional moment of the celebration was the reaction of many attendees who knew the school’s previous condition and could hardly believe what had been achieved in such a short time.
The joy over the successful project was noticeable at the official inauguration ceremony: Around 800 people gathered, including the Bishop of Bafia, representatives of the Patrizia Foundation and PATRIZIA, the architects in charge, teachers, parents, and many happy children. The event was a true celebration – full of music, traditional dances, laughter, and moving moments. Pride, gratitude, and hope were reflected in the faces of everyone present. A crucial contribution to the implementation of this important expansion work was made by the PATRIZIA HIKING Challenge 2024: Over 200,000€ was raised in support of the PATRIZIA School Bafia.
This incredible commitment from around 120 participants – employees of PATRIZIA, sponsors, and other supporters—played a major role in making the school a reality. Thanks to their efforts, the school now shines in new splendor and provides the children with a safe and modern learning environment.
With the new PATRIZIA School Bafia, not just a school has been opened, but a place of hope for generations of children. It is a symbol that change is possible when people come together and believe in a better future.
